Dance Dress Code

Students must be properly attired in full uniform for every class.

Hair:

Must be pulled up off the face in a secure ballet bun using hair net & hairpins, bangs must be pulled back off face with either a headband or barrettes. Hip Hop students may wear a secure ponytail.

KinderDance:

Fitted black cotton tank leotard/bodysuit*, suntan full-footed tights, black gymnastic slippers.

Ballet:

Fitted black cotton tank leotard/bodysuit, pink full-footed tights (Mondor), Bloch Split Sole or Elastosplit ballet shoes (pink), canvas or leather.

Jazz, Musical Theatre**:

Fitted black cotton tank leotard/bodysuit, suntan full-footed tights, black Capezio Jazz shoes, Pedini Femme PP323 (for students with a foot smaller than size 2, black Bloch slip on jazz shoes are acceptable). Company members require Capezio Jazz shoes (Pedini Femme PP323) in black as well as suntan. Knee pads are optional, but recommended.

Tap**:

Fitted Black Cotton Tank Leotard/Bodysuit, Suntan Full-Footed Tights, Black Tap Shoes: Capezio CG55 or for children's sizes - Bloch S0301G.

Acro, Lyrical, Modern**:

Fitted black cotton tank leotard/bodysuit, suntan footless tights, Dance Paws.

**Students who are self-conscious may wear plain ALL black (no colour bands or decoration of any sort) fitted dance shorts (inseam no longer than 2 inches) over their bodysuits & tights (except Ballet classes). For injury prevention reasons, pants of any sort are not permitted, except for Hip-Hop. Pants do not allow teachers to clearly see, and check for: correct alignment of the pelvis, hips, back & legs or proper tracking of the knee.

Hip Hop:

Fitted black top or bodysuit, black nylon pants, knee pads (volleyball), black indoor running shoes (competitive company dancers please see teacher for shoe requirements).

Boys (All Classes):

Plain white or black t-shirt, black shorts or track pants and appropriate shoes (as noted above).

Jewellery:

Watches & jewellery may not be worn. Please leave all jewellery and valuables at home. Please do not pierce your child's ears after the March Break as earrings are not permitted for dance photos and the recital, unless required as a part of a costume.

Dance Bags:

A small dance bag, any style, large enough to fit shoes & hair supplies (brush & spare elastics, hair nets & hairpins) with student's name on it (in case it is misplaced) is required.

Supplies:

We recommend purchasing a bodysuit from a dancewear supply store (rather than wal-mart or zellers) as they are cut properly for the demands of a dance class and will keep dancers adequately covered through the seat and leg. All dance supplies may be purchased at Stouffville Academy of Music & Dance, Gabie's Boutique 18075 Leslie Street, Newmarket, or the Dance Experts 60 Randall Drive, Pickering. Hair supplies may be purchased at any drug store or Wal-Mart. Inexpensive plain black running shoes (for rec. Hip Hop only) may be purchased at Wal-Mart or Pay Less Shoes. Volleyball kneepads may be purchased at Canadian Tire or any sporting goods store.
