MUSICAL THEATRE (Sing, Act, Dance)

Our musical theatre program is similar to our acting program, but it also incorporates song and dance. This means that in addition to studying acting, students will receive instruction from our music and dance faculty, to improve their singing and dancing. As well, the selections for performance will be taken from musicals.

Our musical theatre program is divided into two age groups, for students aged 7-10 and students aged 11 and up. This division of age will not only ensure that students are learning and socializing with their peer group, it will ensure that the material selected for both Performance and Education is age appropriate in terms of interest and ability.

Our 45 minute classes are divided between Instructional/Educational time and Performance/Rehearsal time.

In Instructional time, drama exercises are used to develop acting skills and confidence. As well, certain weeks will also focus on vocal work through singing lessons, and foot work through dance lessons. Music and dance classes will be led by qualified instructors from our music and dance programs.

During Performance time, each student will be given the opportunity to 'star' in a piece selected specifically for them based on their interests and abilities. Too often, performance opportunities for young actors amount to a small role for most, while one or two students are given starring roles. Our program ensures that all students have an opportunity in both starring and supporting roles. These performances will be showcased for parents and audiences in December, and at our year-end recital in June.
